Interview from Cary Spotlight
Deb Rasmussen's Mission: Protecting Families, Preserving Legacies
Rasmussen Law, founded by Deb Rasmussen, is redefining how Cary residents approach estate planning. Established in May 2024, Rasmussen Law, PLLC, offers more than just legal documents; it provides a personal touch that prioritizes comprehensive family care and legacy preservation.
“Most people don't realize that just having a will in place does not protect their family from opening a probate proceeding when they die,” explains Rasmussen. This public and often costly process can be avoided with proper advance planning. Rasmussen Law's unique approach ensures that clients not only receive necessary legal documents but also a thorough understanding of how the law interacts with their personal plans.
At the heart of Rasmussen Law is the Life & Legacy Planning Session. Here, clients learn about the implications of their current estate plans, or lack thereof, and are presented with options tailored to their family's needs and budget. For parents of minor children, the firm offers a Kids Protection Plan, which includes short-term guardian designations to prevent children from ever being left in the care of strangers.
Rasmussen's dedication extends beyond legal documentation. The Family Care Plan ensures that estate plans remain up-to-date, and clients have continuous access to Rasmussen as their Personal Family Lawyer. This plan also includes an annual Family Legacy Interview, preserving family stories and values alongside legal preparations.
Deb Rasmussen's journey to establishing her firm is as comprehensive as her services. Deb was an entrepreneur for 15 years in the personal publishing and scanning business, followed by a stint as a as a Real Estate and Estate Planning paralegal for Jonathan Richardson. It was her work as a paralegal that sparked her passion for estate planning. After law school, Deb clerked for Chief Judge Donna Stroud of the North Carolina Court of Appeals and then worked as an associate attorney for Paul Stam at Stam Law Firm in Apex.
These experiences have shaped her client-centered practice. Deb knows what causes estate plans to fail (even expensive ones with pretty binders) and her estate planning practice is intentionally designed to ensure that your estate plan works, keeping your family out of court and out of conflict. Deb also knows that family wealth is much more than your real estate, business, or personal property; it is also your family values, pictures, and stories. When you work with Deb you will be prepared, protected, and remembered.
Testimonials from satisfied clients reflect Rasmussen's impact. “Deb took a very complicated estate situation and made it seem easy,” shares one client, highlighting the firm's ability to simplify and manage complex legal matters. Another praises, “We highly recommend Debbie Rasmussen… we have great confidence in her abilities and her integrity.”

Deb enjoys people, swimming, Asian food, karaoke, and AI.
Looking ahead, Rasmussen Law is open for business now, and will have an official grand opening this fall with plans to further integrate into the community through initiatives like the Women's Collaborative Business Network.
Deb Rasmussen's vision is clear: to offer not just legal services, but a lasting legacy of family security and peace of mind.
